Top Teams Vie to Wave the Checkered Flag at The Sailfish 400
The second leg of the Quest for the Crest, the Sailfish 400, returns to the southern waters off Miami on January 27th and brings a flood of fisherman that are eager for the chance to get one step closer to a world champion title. An estimated purse of $600,000 and pursuit of the iconic Quest for the Crest Jacket will drive these teams to perform at the top of their game. The first leg of the series got off to a hot start in Palm Beach with a near 400 releases. With recent cold fronts pushing the sailfish south, expectations are high for another great bite in Miami by the end of the month.
Last year’s inaugural Sailfish 400 was a spectacular event at the DoubleTree Grand Biscayne Bay with 43 registered boats and a tournament purse of $574,000. The top four teams of the tournament all released the same number of fish but it was team De-Bait-Able that took home the champion’s title, based on time. They also took home a whopping $175,000 in the 2-day tournament.
A new optional entry category, the Release Roundup, is another chance for teams to take home a big slice of the tournament pie. The category is divided into 4 rounds over the 2 days of fishing with a morning and afternoon round each day. Before each round of fishing, a number between 1 and 8 will be drawn from a sealed container. The number drawn will determine the number of sailfish to be released in order to move on to the next round. The pot from the first leg of the series has rolled over to the Sailfish 400 with an estimated payout of close to $50,000. If there is no winner the purse will roll over to the next leg of the series, the Sailfish Challenge, in February.
The Area Code Challenge is back and hyping up teams to compete against fellow opponents from their same area code. Teams fishing will have the chance to take home some extra prize money and the satisfaction of beating their local competition.
In addition to the hefty payouts, there will also be a NASCAR Championship weekend prize package presented, compliments of Homestead Miami Speedway. The top 8 teams in the tournament will be eligible for this fantastic prize! The package includes six tickets to Ford Championship Weekend, VIP parking passes, pre-race pit passes, post-race victory lane access and a pace car ride.
The race driven theme of the tournament is once again reflected by its chosen charity, Driving for a Cause, which operates under the umbrella of the NASCAR Foundation to provide support for South Florida youth and educational programs. Driving for a Cause is dedicated to making a lasting impact on the community, supporting growth with volunteer and non-profit efforts.
The Sailfish 400 kick off party will take place at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, January 27th at host venue DoubleTree Grand by Hilton Biscayne Bay. This supreme location has so much to offer, including standard rooms, suites and condos with a breath taking view of Biscayne Bay, along with retail shopping and several restaurant options inside the hotel. The competition days will be January 29th and 30th followed by a party bus excursion to South Beach on Saturday night and an awards brunch on Sunday, January 31st. Credentials are required for access to all event activities. Early entry for the tournament is $3,750 (plus tax) valid through January 12th. After January 12th, registration is $4,500 (plus tax).
